When my dad's company was facing bankruptcy, he suddenly thought of me, whom he had abandoned for many years. He arranged a good marriage for me with someone older, wealthy, and well-off. He said that if I married him, it would not only resolve the company's crisis but also allow me to enjoy endless riches and glory for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, he didn't know that I had died six months ago.

Chapter 1

When my father came to the hospital to visit me, my spirit was floating in the air of my office.

He pushed open the door and scanned the room, only to find no trace of me. Turning around, he called over a young nurse from the hallway. "Is Estelle off work today?"

The nurse gave him a once-over, her expression odd. "And you are?"

My father smiled. "I'm her father. I'm here to talk to her about something."

"Oh, I see. So you're Dr. Swanson's father!" The nurse drawled, her voice tinged with mockery before she suddenly sneered at him. Dr. Swanson has been dead and gone for six months now. Didn't you know?"

I saw my father remain motionless for a moment and then take a deep breath before shouting at the nurse. "What nonsense are you talking about? How dare you joke about such a thing?! Tell Estelle! If she doesn't want to come home, she might as well not return for the rest of her life! No need to fool us with such a blatant lie! I don't know what exactly I did to deserve such a troublesome daughter!"

The nurse immediately turned red with anger and opened her mouth to retort.

But my father didn't give her the chance. After his tirade, he stormed into the elevator while muttering curses under his breath.

I saw the nurse's eyes well up with tears as she clenched her fists and stomped her feet. "Dr. Swanson was such a wonderful person. Why is her father so terrible? If she heard those words, it would break her heart!"

I floated over and patted her shoulder gently, whispering comforting words to her, "Don't be upset. I'm already dead. And a dead person won't feel sadness."

Though I put it that way, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment.

What kind of parents would lose contact with their daughter for six months? Furthermore, the first thing my father did after he knew about my death was to curse at me.

I watched the elevator descend and followed my father home as if driven by an inexplicable urge.

Standing in the luxurious, well-lit mansion, I felt a sense of disorientation.

This was the Swanson family residence, but I had never lived here, because my parents had forbidden it.

Even meeting them was a rare thing.

That was why my father's sudden visit to the hospital today felt so unusual to me.

As I was lost in thought, two women dressed luxuriously approached. It was my mother and my sister, Myra.

"Dad, did you see Estelle?" Myra asked.

My father's expression darkened as he snapped, "No! What an ungrateful girl she is! Not only did she avoid me, but she even had the hospital staff lie to me, claiming she was dead. Humph, I wish she really had died!"

Myra seemed to be taken by surprise, but the corners of her mouth curled up ever so slightly.

Meanwhile, my mother standing beside them chimed in, piling on the criticism against me. "She's such an ungrateful girl. How dare she make up such a lame lie to avoid us?!"

After venting her anger, she furrowed her brows, her tone anxious. "But, honey, if we can't find Estelle, how can we raise the money to save our company?"

My father gritted his teeth in frustration. "She can't hide forever. No matter what, she has to work in the hospital. I'll definitely find her one day!"

My mother nodded in agreement. "Mr. Slater may be a little older than her, but he's so wealthy. Once she marries him, she'll be living a life of luxury. It's far better than working that tiring job. We're doing this for her own good, but she's too blind to see it!"

So that was why my father suddenly showed up at the hospital to see me today.

Floating above them, I looked at their angry faces, as if I were their arch enemy, and couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.

Luckily, I died before this.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from questioning them over and over. How could you bring yourselves to treat me like this?
