Miguel has only one mission: Win back the heart of Anastasia Ani. After their cold divorce, Miguel's life is cast into ruins. He enters into a fight to win back the trust of his wife and that of his children he never knew existed. His plan was to lay low, build his life back, and try to win Anastasia's heart again. But when he discovers Anastasia is getting married to billionaire tycoon Alejandro Luis, Miguel must try everything possible to destroy their marriage.
"Congratulations, Anastasia, you are finally pregnant after three years."
Anastasia bobbed up and down in her seat. She squealed in excitement, getting the pregnancy result from the doctor.
"Miguel will be so happy! He has almost gotten depressed from waiting so long."
"You better go and tell him," the female gynaecologist said.
Anastasia couldn't wait. She picked up her bags, stuffed the pregnancy result inside, and headed straight to Hilltop Corporation. Inside the car, she called Miguel to inform him of her visit, but he didn't respond.
Immediately the car stopped, she rushed out as fast as her heels and pencil skirt could allow her.
"Good morning, Mrs. Dolores." The receptionist greeted her with a smile.
Anastasia just waved back with a huge smile. She had no time to wait and talk. This news needed to get to Miguel as soon as possible. On reaching the top floor, she straightened her slightly rumpled skirt, took in a deep breath and moved towards Miguel's office door.
She knocked once and pushed it open with that same joy brightening up her perfectly tanned face. Immediately she stepped into the room, her face drained of its color and her smile vanished.
"What's the meaning of this?" She said as she pointed at the blonde lady seated on Miguel's desk with her skirt drawn up her thigh. Miguel stood in front of her, planting kisses on her neck. He stopped immediately when he heard his wife's voice. The lady turned around, and when Anastasia saw her face, she was dumbstruck. That was Bianca, her best friend for over two years now.
"Anastasia, why are you here?" His jaw clenched and the fire in his gaze showed the extent of his anger.
"I came to surprise you. But it seems I'm the one in line for a shocker." Anastasia's eyes strayed to Bianca who just sat there, looking at her in disgust. The betrayal pricked her heart. "Can you explain what is happening here, Miguel?"
"Actually, yes," Miguel said and reached for a paper on his table. "I've gotten enough of your bullshit." He stretched forth his hand to Anastasia. "Take!"
She walked up to him and collected the paper. Reading through the heading, her feet suddenly froze, and her heart skipped a beat.
"Divorce? Miguel, you cannot divorce me! After all we've been through?"
Miguel slapped his hand on the table with great force. Anastasia took some steps back in caution.
"Just sign the papers, take the alimony and be out of my house by tomorrow morning. I don't want to ever see or hear from you again."
Tension enveloped Anastasia as she stared at the man who once promised at the altar to never leave her.
"I have done everything to please you, Miguel. Even when you just started this company, I stayed by your side, working with you day and night and now you just send me away like trash? Does your grandfather even agree to this?"
"I do not care about grandfather's opinion. Not because you took care of him on his sick bed, you think you can use that to blackmail me every time."
Anastasia fought with the tears gathering in her eyes.
"But why her? What does she give you that I can't, Miguel?"
"A baby, Stasy, a baby!" He snapped and turned to look at the lady with a softened expression. "Bianca is pregnant with my son, and she's coming to live with me tomorrow."
Bianca placed a hand on Miguel's shoulder and rubbed it. He held her hand and looked at her lovingly before turning back to Anastasia, who only stared with a broken heart. A teardrop rolled down her eyes and she cleaned it immediately.
"There's a cheque for fifteen million to cover your expenses. I have set up a house in Chicago for you to stay in. Do you need anything else?"
Anastasia shook her head. "No. Your poor wife wouldn't need anything else."
Miguel and Bianca laughed. "Is that self-pity? Oh, Stasy, you're only telling yourself the truth though. You're a low-class housemaid who managed to entrap me into a silly childless marriage with you. Now go find something better to do with your life."
Anastasia looked down as tears welled up in her eyes again. She was trying so hard not to cry in front of them.
"See you in court tomorrow. And don't waste my time with any unnecessary drama."
Anastasia stood, transfixed as she watched the man she once loved wrap his arms around another woman right in front of her. The betrayal ate deep in her heart, tearing at the little bits of love she had left for Miguel. All the excitement she had brought with her washed away.
She turned and walked out of the office, slamming the door close behind her. She clenched her fists and looked up, so her tears wouldn't fall. Bringing out her phone, she called an old friend.
"Oliver, please come get me," she said. The other person immediately understood her message.
Five minutes later, a white Ferrari pulled up in front of Hilltop Corporation. Anastasia entered and they drove off.
"It's nice to have you back, Miss Ana," Oliver greeted the unusually quiet Anastasia, who continued to stare out the window. Then his eyes met the divorce papers.
Anastasia tried to smile so she wouldn't look too sad in front of the man who had taken care of her for most of her life. But she couldn't. After trying for three good years to be the best wife to Miguel, did all her effort mean nothing to him? Now she's left alone to cater for a baby who will never know his biological father.
She opened her mouth to explain. "Oliver, Miguel, he..." her voice cracked into sobs. The tears streamed down her face like a broken dam. She had only loved Miguel genuinely, with all her heart.
"It's okay to feel sad," Oliver consoled, "it just means your heart hates the disrespect even though you don't like him anymore. If it makes you feel any better, the boys and I can go into his house tonight and straighten him up, give him the beating of his life for touching our princess."
Anastasia managed to laugh through the tears. "Oh, I wish I could say yes, but there's no need for that. He doesn't deserve my energy anymore. I can't believe I trusted him all these years. Good thing I did not tell him about the pregnancy."
"You're pregnant? That's great news!"
They drove into a large compound accommodating a beautiful mansion. Everywhere was strangely quiet as Anastasia stepped out of the car.
"Where is everybody?" Anastasia asked Oliver as they entered the living room.
"Welcome back home, Ana!"
Everyone suddenly came out of their hiding place. They all rushed to hug her. It had been long since they saw the young Miss Ana, who they took care of as a child and young adult. Now twenty-six years old, Ana regards them as family.
The welcome party constituted her former personal cook, nanny, handmaid, driver, and two security men. Those are the perks of being the daughter of a renowned billionaire. She had moved from the Philippines, her home country, to build a life for herself in America from scratch. Despite her adopted father's protests, she dared to take the challenge.
She found a job as a housemaid for the Dolores family. After working there for two years, she got married to Miguel, whom she had fallen in love with. She got so engrossed in loving him and building a life with him. It turned out, she was only building a life for him. But these amazing people hadn't forgotten about her.
"You guys!" She said, almost moved to tears. "You waited for me. I'm so glad Father asked you guys to come. I wouldn't have been more comfortable with anyone else."
"Yes, your father wanted to make sure you had backup just in case something went wrong in New York, and we didn't want to leave you here alone while you hadn't settled fully," Her former nanny winked at her.
Her father's idea of settling down is at least having multiple sources of income which, served you millions. She laughed at the thought.
"Guys, Anastasia is also pregnant!" Oliver announced and they all cheered.
"We need to celebrate this with a drink," John, who was one of the security, said and left for the bar.
"I'm sure you and John have been watching me all this time," Anastasia directed her statement to the second security man, Daniel. "I told father I would be fine on my own, but I'm glad he didn't listen. I have no one else here."
Anastasia smiled at all of them. With this party and the joy emanating from these people, the agony of Miguel's betrayal was submerged.
Oliver, who had gone outside to answer a call, rushed back in, grabbing everyone's attention.
"Miss Ana, should I book the evening flight?" Anastasia shot her head up at him, surprised by the sudden plan. "Err... The stakeholders need a word with you. In person. Seems they can't wait to have their director back."
He finished his statement with a forced smile. The stakeholders didn't bring good news. Years ago, Anastasia had escaped them, relocating from the Philippines. Now this divorce has her trapped with them.
