I kiss daisy on the head as I put her hair in two pigtails, I wear her one of her faded but better-looking dresses.
"mummy, when do you think I can go to school with the other pups?" she asks looking at me with hopeful eyes.
"soon sweety." I whisper to her giving her a smile. "now you know the drill, don't come out of the room. And if someone opens the door hide and only come out when you're sure it's me." I wipe off invincible lint from her dress. She nods at me in understanding, she is quite smart for a four-year-old. I get up and put my hair in a messy bun before heading out of the room, I turn just before I completely lock the door behind me to blow her a kiss and wave her bye one last time.
"bring something tasty." She says. "I will honey." I reply completely closing the door completely.
I hurry to the kitchen, immediately getting started on breakfast. I try my best to work as fast as possible in brewing coffee, making fresh jugs of fruit juice all the while flipping pancakes and making scrambled eggs. I begin to plate them and set it all on the table, just as the first set of people come in. I sigh. Here we go again!
I hide at the side again and breakfast is filled with lewd and rude comments from the pack members. A couple of name calling and hair pulling and soon they all began to file out of the kitchen. The man from yesterday gives me the stink eye before exiting the kitchen. I take a gulp of air, because I sure as hell need it. I wash the dishes and scrape all the leftovers into another plate. Today's left overs were a lot, enough for daisy and I to eat actually. I hurry up with the food and go back to the basement with it. I open the door but she's not within the sight. "it's me honey, it's okay to come out." I say and she peeks out to make sure it's really me before coming out completely.
I rush to her with the plate of food and the one good glass of juice I could get. Her eyes widen at the amount of food I could swipe for us today, I place it on the bed and we sit and begin to eat. After a couple of more bites of the food I leave the rest for her and she hurriedly finishes it. She gulps down the juice before letting out a huge belch. We both giggle, I place a loving hand on her head and she smiles up at me. She's so tiny and scrawny, I know she looks malnourished and I almost weep for all the times she had to sleep hungry.
"what's wrong mummy?" she says her eyes filled with concern.
"nothing sweety, I'm going back to work now and don't forget to hide."
She nods in understanding and proceeds to hide. I leave her and go about the rest of my chores, cleaning various rooms in the pack house, I do a bit of laundry and proceed to make lunch for the pack. They file in at lunch and eat, little hair pulling and name calling but otherwise it went smoothly. I snuck some food back to daisy before going back to my work.
I finish up the last of the dishes from dinner and pick up the leftovers taking it with me back to the room, when a woman from nowhere suddenly stops me. she eyes the contents in my hand. "what are you doing with that?"
I look down but don't answer her question, she puts a hand under my chin and forcefully raises my face to face her. "answer me when I talk to you."
"I-I-I'm g-g-going to-to eat it." I stammer out.
"so, you're stealing food?" she says anger lacing her tone.
"n-no, I'm n-not st-stealing it."
"are you calling me a liar?" she yells in my face before she hits me across the face.
The food I'm holding nearly drops from my hands as the blow hits me but I hold it tightly. She hurriedly knocks on a closed door and the person inside opens up immediately. "what Karen?" the man yells. She rolls her eyes before responding to him. "I just caught the freak stealing food from the kitchen" she says.
The man looks tired and in no mood to deal with her or me right now. "just report her to the alpha or you get someone else to punish her as well." He says shutting his door in her face. I hope to the moon goddess she doesn't take me to the alpha's office, I can't let daisy sleep hungry again. "p-please just let me take this one, I won't do it again." I say tears welling up in my eyes. I hope she's one of the kinder ones and actually lets me go with the food.
"let you go? You're not only a cheap slut, you're also a thief and you want me to let you go just like that? No way!" she says forcefully taking the food from my hand and throwing it on the floor, she then proceeds to kick my stomach and I fall on my knees. Tears stream down my face but I don't cry out, I don't want to draw attention so others like her won't join in. she suddenly grabs my hair painfully and I'm sure my face contorts in pain. "you're proving tough aren't you, you little slut."
I shake my head no and she drags me by hair up the stairs, my body continuously hits the stairs as she drags me up to the alpha's office. Please don't let him be in there! Please don't let him be in there, I pray fervently. We get there and she knocks, she doesn't wait for him to say anything she states her mission immediately.
"alpha! I caught a thief!" she yells.
The door opens and all the fight is drained from me.
